Azercell Telecom JV and US Embassy in Azerbaijan announce English Language Courses for journalists

Azercell Telecom JV, implements a new media-oriented strategy “İnkişafı Paylaşmaq Platforması” (Development Sharing Platform) which focuses on development of quality journalism in Azerbaijan since the beginning of 2007.

This strategy is a new stage in our close relations with mass media and it aims at sharing our development as a leading telecommunication company of the region with press, which is a mirror of society.

Taking into consideration that independent and powerful media is an important factor for the development of civil society, we have started implementation of different projects within this strategy in order to support this mission of journalism in Azerbaijan. Our next project focusing on development of press is a language courses for journalists.

“Azercell Telecom” JV and US Embassy in Azerbaijan are pleased to announce launch of English Language Courses for Azerbaijani journalists. Qualified English language teachers will conduct classes, focusing on development of writing and reporting skills. The courses are open to active mid-career journalists working for print, electronic and broadcast media.

Eligible participants must be:

  • At least two years experience as a journalist
  • Be able to demonstrate affiliation with a media organization and commitment to seven-month courses by submitting Letter of Recommendation by Chief of the organization.
  • Samples of the journalist work produced during last 3 months.

English courses will be conducted in Baku from November 2007 to May 2008. 30 participants will be selected to participate in two Elementary and one Intermediate level classes. Applicants who meet selection criteria will be interviewed by Selection Committee. Interested applicants must fill in the APPLICATION form and submit to the following address every day except Monday, from 14:00 to 18:00 together with a recommendation letter and samples of the journalist work: Baku, 25, Suleyman Rustam str., Baku Slavic University, room 322, Azerbaijan English Teachers Association.

Deadline for application is 18.00, October 20, 2007.
